Oba Kunta Octopus is a firmly established innovative medium-size

Oba Kunta Octopus was founded by product designer Okang’a
Ooko in April 2003. Our mission is to provide high-quality, efficient,
effective, comprehensive design services to clients for middle-market
rates.
Okang’a brings experience from a vast array of creative
disciplines including fine art, product design, design for development
projects, graphic design, as well as high level of technical expertise
in print design. The Oba Kunta Octopus print design team adds
an array of talents to this skill set, bringing remarkable world
class printing to catch your eye and a final print quality and
expertise that speak for itself.
What we do:
- We control the quality from concept in graphic design. We
avail proofs for your approval.
- We output the work onto film through high quality color separation
techniques in preparation for the widely used offset printing
using sheet metal plates
- We source for the best printers locally and abroad: from high
quality sheet-fed gravure printing, Lenticular sheet printing,
UV printing and finishing on PP, PVC, Foil / Holo foil board
etc.

mistakes or late deliveries.

Print Planning Initial Consultation
The following is a boilerplate of how we manage print projects.
A customized specification would be developed only after completion
of the project specification during the initial consultation, to
be included in the cost estimate/ statement of work proposal.

sizing, and style in your printed material to communicate your
message.

be set for submission of client content to take flight graphics.

Cost Estimation / Statement of
Work
Once the project specifications are defined, a cost estimate based
on the hourly rate and the number of hours needed to complete the
project will be submitted to you for evaluation, usually within
two business days. A statement of work proposal will be drawn up
outlining the project and will include development details, project
schedules and milestones (if needed) payment terms deliverables
dates the cost estimate etc
Note: Oba Kunta Octopus will also obtain press
quotes during this phase and coordinate the press run per client
request
Define basic milestones/timeline:
1. Define all design, layout, logo, and press specifications.
2. Create cost estimation/statement of work proposal; send to
client for review/approval
3. Signed contract received by Oba Kunta Octopus. Initial project
payment due (if included).
4. Design initial layout/logo iterations. Submit to client for
review/approval.
5. Work through the number of revisions spec’d in contract.
6. Upon client final approval, pre-press print materials and send
to press. A pre-press proof is
recommended for all 4-color jobs
7. Coordinate press run, shipment/delivery of final items to client.
8. Final payment received
Copyright usage
Designer Designer retains copyright to
all source files (original artwork) created during identity package
development. Designer retains right to display original artwork
in any media for business promotional purposes and to derivative
from same.
Client Client retains usage rights in
perpetuity to final set of press ready files (.eps, font outlined)
approved by the client for usage on contract specified materials
only. Repurposing of logo for any other materials charged is separately.
Rights to font intact source files charged separately.
Note: No fonts will be included in final set of files. Clients
must purchase font licenses separately from an authorized font
vendor.
The Contract
Oba Kunta Octopus requires all clients to approve and sign a contract
that will protect both Oba Kunta Octopus and the client, and provide
a solid expectation and agreement about creation and delivery
of the project. The contract will evolve from the statement of
work and will be legally binding upon both the client and Oba
Kunta Octopus. Work will not commence until a signed contract
has been received by Oba Kunta Octopus via snail-mail, or for
rush jobs, via fax.
Client feedback
Scheduled feedback sessions will take place based for number
of design revisions spec'd in contract. Client feedback and approvals
necessary to achieve scheduled project milestones are mandatory
to ensure timely advancement of the project. Client input is valued
and necessary for project deadline to be met as scheduled.
Print coordination
Oba Kunta Octopus provides print coordination services and will
coordinate the entire press run including delivery of product
to your business. A press check can be scheduled with the printer
for off-set press runs. A color proof is recommended for all 4-color
jobs. Once Oba Kunta Octopus has approved the final printed product,
arrangements will be made for delivery, for pick up or shipment*
*Client pays for all services bureau and/or printing charges directly
to the vendor.
Note: Oba Kunta Octopus reserves the right to
samples of all printed work portfolio and business promotion purposes.
Cost and Payment Terms
Basic rate: The basic hourly rate applies
only to design and development work. All other costs will be referred
to
as contingency costs or expenses (For current rates, call +254
020 313 116 during business hours,
10am-6pm, M - F)
A cost estimate/proposal for the project, based on the hourly
rate, will be submitted 1 business
day after the initial consultation and/or project specs are finalized.
Contingecy costs: Contingency costs cover
elements of the project not covered by the contract and may include:
- Rush charges for projects with short deadlines
- Charges for delayed payments (see payment terms)
- Charges for changes to the project outside
the parameters agreed upon
Expenses
Expenses are incurred when the project requires use of materials
or vendors other design work
performed by Oba Kunta Octopus. Expenses may include:
- Color proofs, film and other pre-press production
items
- Photos and film development
- Stock photo and/or Clipart purchases specifically
related to the project
- Paper purchases (usually included in printing
costs)
- Subcontracting and other vendor costs
- Project management Fees
Billing payment terms
- 30%-50% of estimated project costs are due
upon contract signing unless the project is small or of short
duration (determined at initial consultation).
- Progress payment for project milestones will
be indicated in the statement of work/contract.
- Oba Kunta Octopus reserves the right to invoice
client at any time if project extends beyond
deliverables date as outlined in the contract.
- Designer will invoice client promptly for
balance upon client receipt or posting (to client server)
of project deliverables.
- All invoices are due and payable upon receipt
and must be paid NET 15 unless otherwise
speed in the contract.
- A penalty for late payment will be assessed
as follows: 1% of unpaid balance per week
overdue (penalty not to exceed 10% of overdue amount per year).
Project cancellation
Should client stop the project at any time during the development
period, designer will invoice for work
completed up to the point of termination. Cancellation fees may
apply as determined by Oba Kunta Octopus.
